No Regret

Sometimes for the light to survive, we need to summon the darkness.

No regrets.

None. Have you ever tasted

the words, the space

between the letters?

.

Be still, the words have merit.

They consecrate,

they break.

.

Bask in the words and their shining light,

bathe in the shadows and the dark.

.

But taste blood

from wounded gums

chewing and swallowing

.

a phrase your stomach

cannot hold.

.

Feel syllables as they roll off

the tongue and jaw.

.

Accept the protection of the self,

parts exposed to a thousand

points of hardness.

.

Live with a body bruised

but not broken,

sore but still

.

useful for eating,

devouring, feeding oneself,

.

again, and again.
