No need for ribbons to wrap your gift this year.

-

Once you wished for toys

then boys

now the noise

of my voice

removed

will prove

my love.

In my head

instead

I tell you aloud

how proud

of you I feel

it's unreal

that these words

won't be heard.

It's too late?

will you hate

(or scorn?)

forever she that had borne

you

and still mourns

you

though I've sworn

to

Stop. Full stop.

Distance and silence seem an easy gift

but the rift

cut adrift

unmoored

while I hoard

memories stored

back to the start

when you were a part

of my heart

now worlds apart

on the shore

how I adore

you from afar

love and words fill the reservoir

of my heart

awaiting fate in the abattoir

to be torn apart

and used to wrap your gift of silence.

heartbreak
