What by night would well-appear
then by day be hidden?
The candlestick, the chandelier;
as by day their use be ridden.
.
What by night is wide awake
and then by day retires?
The possum by a moonlit lake,
as of dawn his work expires.
.
What by night would drain the sky
and then by day refill it?
Last night’s shadow passing by,
of course, just as time would will it.
.
The moon by sun is chased away,
that’s how last night becomes today.

A first impression has a lasting effect - it makes a notable difference. In a subtle way that’s who I am as a poet. A ‘first impression’ looking for the gentle ‘twist’ that draws attention to a novel observation.
