Never Say Never

Maybe it will come to pass

Never Say Never

I once swore loudly I never would fall

Never need anyone ever at all

Built up my walls till they towered like stone

Proud of surviving the whole world alone

Then life came laughing straight into my path

Breaking my careful defences in half

Love arrived sudden and fierce as a flame

Nothing inside me remained quite the same

Never say never the old people warned

Still I ignored them completely of course

Youth thinks tomorrow obeys every plan

Certain the future sits neat in our hands

I said I would never forgive what was done

Yet time softened edges one by one

I said I would never survive certain pain

Still somehow my breathing continued again

The world twists sharply in ways unforeseen

Turning impossible oddly routine

Enemies vanish while strangers draw near

People leave suddenly year after year

Now I speak softer whenever I swear

Knowing how quickly life changes the air

Never is dangerous placed on the tongue

Time loves proving the certain ones wrong
