Nana & the Birds

Feeding them her daily promise kept till she died

Nana & the Birds

Nana stood where mornings breathe,

crumbs of gold within her hand,

silent words the sparrows knew,

love they seemed to understand.

Feathers brushed her weathered coat,

wings like whispers in the air,

every bird that came to rest

found a kind forever there.

Stones were cold but she was warm,

time slowed down around her feet,

in that quiet, fragile space

life and gentleness would meet.

I was young and didn’t see

what those simple moments meant,

thought it just a passing thing,

not a message softly sent.

Now the square feels far too wide,

echoes where her laughter stayed,

birds still gather out of habit,

searching for the love she gave.

So I go and take her place,

seeds held softly in my palm,

trying hard to mirror her

quiet strength and fragile calm.

And when wings surround me close,

brushing past like whispered grace,

I can feel her presence still

lingering within that place.

Love like hers does never leave,

it just finds another way,

living on in gentle acts

we remember every day.
