My Wings: From Protection to Power

The Evolution of My Wings

When I felt a breeze on a dry day,

I would get anxious,

the air touched places still tender.

I was brave then,

without knowing it yet.

I felt the wings of my dear angel

and I would calm down.

When I saw a shadow in the street darkness,

fear would grow faster than reason.

I was vulnerable then.

But I would feel the wings of my dear angel

and I would relax.

When I heard a sound late at night

I would wake up.

Instinct guided me then,

something faster than thought.

I felt the wings of my dear angel

and I would smile.

Now,

when the breeze blows on a dry day,

I say: this is exactly what is needed now.

Now I am aware of the change.

When I see a shadow in a dark street,

I look closer,

I am stable, awake, and fearless.

When a sound wakes me at night,

I get up out of curiosity,

and the need to protect myself

and those I love.

Now choice guides me.

Before, the angel’s wings came

only at moments,

briefly,

when fear appeared

or the unknown.

Now

the wings are with me constantly.

I don’t ask if they are mom’s, dad’s

or someone else’s.

I know they are mine.
