My Virtual Memory Book

Floating silently in my mind

My Memory Book

In my virtual book of memories floating somewhere in my mind,

I dream of late last summer and the love we left behind.

Those warm summer nights of passion we thought would never end.

Too soon love turned to anger, and we knew it wouldn’t mend.

I recall sitting in a restaurant, chatting lovingly as we ate.

I only found out about your wife when it was all much too late.

In too deep, but a guilty conscience tore us both apart,

I did that for your children, so not to break their hearts.

Then it became obvious you had no intentions of leaving;

It was always your family you protected from the start.

I really thought we were for keeps; I wanted us to be.

Like with most men, I was only a good time on the side.

You told me that you loved me; you treated me so kind.

Questions that I should have asked, I didn’t; I was love blind.

Why today I thought of you—well, it’s because it’s been a year.

So, with a glass alone, I reminisce and let flow a silent tear.
