The memories though bad still linger on with hurt

My St. Patrick’s Day Wedding, 1975

The March wind hummed a quiet tune,

Green ribbons tangled with morning’s bloom.

A bride in white, a heart in flight,

Beneath the soft, pale Irish light.

Gold bands exchanged with trembling hands,

Vows whispered, no grand demands.

The church bells rang, both clear and clear,

Like a lark’s call there beneath the sky.

Yet love unraveled, thread by thread,

Fourteen years, the bad times left unsaid.

My hopes, my dreams, his love, all gone,

A bumpy ride from day one.

Now still, this day won’t slip away,

Though he ruined the emerald day

In 2025, the memory stays,

A distant echo of those days.

A marriage that should never have been

The shamrocks were not lucky green.

He abused me, hurt me.

Then ruined my head

It only lasted 14 years for the kids,

They both had to be fed.

So St Patrick’s day bring me a year

Of me being a blushing bride,

Consumed with his fists of fear.
