My love

My Shore

The world is an ocean and you are a shore,

The ocean steals from you,

It erodes away at your skin,

Stealing sand into its depths.

-

I can see it, as I dive into the waves,

I can feel the sand swirling around me,

Leaving the shore for the last time,

Perhaps never to be seen again.

-

I stupidly gather handfuls of sand,

Desperately try to heal you,

I throw wet sand as far as I can,

It is nothing to how the waves collapse castles.

-

And then it occurs to me,

These beaches have been here for millennia,

Fighting the water for as long as that,

Standing strong.

-

The shore does not need my help,

The shore is stronger than it knows,

I can rest easy, peaceful knowing…

The world is the ocean, but you are the shore.
