My Purse Is Empty

You take every penny I earn

My Purse Is Empty

My purse is empty

you robbed me again

said you’d stop

you never do

out all night

down the pub

cards and lies

till morning comes.

I work

you don’t

I feed us both

you bet the rest

you steal it all.

You laugh like it’s nothing

said it’s only a tenner

said I wouldn’t miss it

said I’m lucky you stay

I count every coin I have too.

I skip lunch to cover rent

I wear old shoes

while you boast

and light another smoke

with my last note

You talk big

you do nothing

you promise

I see through it

I know where the fivers go

I know what your mates say

I know I’m tired

But still

I boil your tea

still I wait

and hate myself for it

still you steal and grin.

And all I know

is my purse is emptied

yet again
