My Peacock

Being free from past trials

Dedicated to the most beautiful man I know.

Theirs a peacock you see, he loved to be among the trees.

Deep in the forest, he felt free.

Captivated by things with wings,

Not knowing their desire for the fires, that twinkled behind them.

His alluring feathers, filled them with a flame they couldn’t tame. Convincing him the flame would give him power.

Only to return home five years later, with things that only resemble wings, with pieces of himself still in the fire.

His mother gone, home feels alone, what was the point of chasing the fire.

Extinguishing the flames of old desire, that once lit fires.

While the ashes of his youth linger all around him.

Dreaming of his feathers sparkling in the light,

Knowing now he never needed the flames to ignite his power.

The things with wings still consumed with decades of fires.

The peacock you see, his feathers grew back like leaves on the trees. He felt free.
