My Never-Ending Climb

A poem offering a short glimpse into my mind for which I apologise upfront for.

A storm brews overhead, deafening the world around me,

My hands hold tight, body flat against the towering rock face,

A grip of desperation, not wanting to fall back down into the pool,

The pool of ice-cold despair and depression that resides in my mind.

A light had shone above, a rainbow giving warmth and hope,

Hope that I am not alone, hope that people have overcome the same,

I had started to climb, renewed by a new sense of future potential,

Rising higher up, away from the crippling darkness of my thoughts.

Then the month ended, people unified now started drifting apart,

Returning back to their world, their haven, waiting another year,

Leaving me alone, like many others, clinging to a cliff of doubts and judgments,

The light above begins to fade, the storm pounds against my skull.

My will begins to dissipate, strength fades with the light as my grip falters,

Falling feels like a relief, the burden of trying to overcome is now gone,

I am not afraid, I know the feeling of this pit all too well,

I hit the water, cold and dread seer through every nerve, pulling me further under.

Weighted, sinking and alone, contemplating taking my final breath,

I stare up at the towering rock face, the mental barrier against my happiness,

I can survive, I can save my family from feeling my pain,

Struggling to keep my mouth above the water, I wait for the light to come again.
