The night has fallen, I can’t find the day

The dark is daunting, the despair so deep

I can’t get out; oh, there must be a way!

How long must I stay, how long must I weep?

From the back of my mind comes a dark plea

One born of the ashes from my lost flame

The dark has spoken, it says “come to me”

My soul tired of fighting, I slowly came.

But as I was about to take the plunge

Into that dark and eternal good night,

My mistress came to me with a lunge,

And with her return came my will to fight.

She slays demons with her melodic sword

And brightens the night with sonorous day.

She softens my heart with strings on a board

And with her voice I have the will to stay.

Thank you, my mistress, for your gift so dear;

Thoughts are deafening, but with you I can hear.
