My Hook

An ode to my key hook

By Mohammed DarasiPublished 11 months ago 1 min read
Picture taken by me

Did I ever say how happy I am,

every time I come home, and you greet me?

When I’m tired and sleepy after a long day,

you always salute me

Sometimes I don’t greet back so apologies

I just crash on the sofa, tired and leave you

Purposeless. Lonely. Blue

But I come back up and always greet you too

And give you what you're due

The keys to my kingdom, you deserve it all

But in lieu

Continue to guard my throne

By reminding me to never leave home

Without the keys. I must reach out and seize

So I can come back to you by any means

-

Before you came into my life I was lost

Mind wires often crossed

Leaving my keys in all sorts

of places. In my trousers sometimes

Or in the sofa crevices and chastise

My forgetful self

And then I would go delve

Into a frantic search for my keys

But it never comes with ease

A million places they could be

So small and fragile they be

That finding them is a feat

Most impossible in my time of need

So, I end up late to work

But then I discovered you

And thought all my problems are in the rear-view

Because ever since I installed you

I’ve never looked back.

Thank you, Hook.

This is great. Something so simple can be so helpful. Well done

This is so sweet, you attached enough emotion right away that I was a little cross with you for ignoring your lovely hook and leaving it purposeless, lonely, and blue.

  • Okay, I'm officially hooked by this. Delightful little ode to the nemesis of Peter Pan (or is that the wrong Hook?).

This is definitely among the top challenge entries I've read.

You really brought to life the humble key hook. I love the emotion, experience and attachment you give to such a small accessory that is taken for granted. Nice entry for the challenge!
