My Heart Jumps For Joy

Morning arrived dressed in pale shades of gold

Something inside me no longer felt cold

Birdsong came spilling through half-open blinds

Pulling fresh light through the dark of my mind

For once no sorrow sat heavy or near

No ghost of regret whispering in my ear

Only excitement alive in my chest

Wild as a creature refusing to rest

My heart jumps for joy at the simplest things

Warm cups of coffee and bright early spring

Laughter that rises without any strain

Soft little moments untouched by pain

The sky looked impossibly clear after rain

People passed smiling and waved in my lane

Even the wind seemed alive with delight

Carrying sweetness through fresh morning light

Perhaps happiness lives quiet and small

Hidden in ordinary pieces of all

Not grand fairy tales or impossible dreams

Just peace flowing softly between daily scenes

I used to believe joy would never stay long

That life was only surviving the wrong

Now I hold tightly each beautiful part

Like fragile bright glass around my heart

If sorrow returns as it sometimes may do

At least I have memories honest and true

Proof even damaged souls still can enjoy

The trembling wonder of hearts full of joy
