My Heart

One day I won’t let you break my heart again

The pain I’m feeling in my heart

Is heavy, like a ships anchor dragging,

Down to where I cannot breathe

You constantly leave me hanging.

***

Our love takes me to a beautiful place

But then you toss me loose once again,

Toss me back under the water

Where I cannot live with the pain.

***

I will break free of you one day

And then you will know regret,

You’ll be the one drifting helplessly

Me, I’ll leave and forget.

***

You will continue to drift

Out of control,

Until you find yourself

Washed up and cold.

***

I look forward to the day

When you wash up,

On the rocks, broken

I’ll smile and wish you luck.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
