My First Thoughts

Across the room

I saw you across the crowded conference room.

I was smitten just like that - boom!

You were smiling at someone. I tried to keep my beating heart at bay.

I wanted so badly for you to smile at me that way.

*

But my first thoughts were:

I'm probably not as smart

........as good looking

........as tall

........as unique

........as worthy

*

Would I even get a first chance?

Would you even give me a second glance?

Then I scolded myself for the negativity.

I wanted you to know the positive me.

*

I am smart enough

........good looking enough

........tall enough

........unique enough

........worthy enough

*

I approached and you smiled at me that way.

I was never the same after that fateful day.

Our love has grown since meeting in the crowd.

For ignoring my first thoughts, I am truly proud.
