Muted
Colored in muted tones of brown and gold
singing and humming tunes that make me smile.
You held my heart right in the thick of things
trials and tribulations, I felt safe in your hands.
But now you say things have changed from yesterday.
It was the way you placed the smile upon my face.
The way you kissed and then promised to stay.
What made you change your mind?
It wasn’t me it was you; I’ve heard that before.
Sorry felt more like sorrow and my tears salty
streaked my face. I miss you!
You’ve left as if by leaving I would forget you.
Packed bags and waves goodbye do not erase the memories.
You were here not just in the room but in my heart.
The scene has changed colors. What once shone brightly
colored in brown, and gold the flecks glistening in the sunlight
have morphed into shades of gray fuzzy with my tears.
You took everything I had and my heart, my smile.
The heart that beat for you is no longer in sync.
I miss you, missed you, missing you now.
It was the way you looked away.
The way you let me go, watched me cry.
It was the way you didn’t say why.
My love was of no concern I’d given it freely.
The sweetness of your touch will forever be etched
in that special way and place that only you owned.

Cynthia Fields
I adore words and I love what happens when we grab them, sleep with them, holler and scream and laugh at them! I love what happens when we throw them in the air and watch them fall magically from our minds onto paper!
