Mountain Climbing

A Villanelle For The Vocal Social Society and the Work The Have Done

Mountain Climbing

My first villanelle did not stick to the true form which was pointed out

quite rightly by John Welford .

Taking his words on board I used "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas as a guide to produce this as a tribute to the hard work of The Vocal Social Society Team.

=================================================

Your only task is to climb the Mountain

The path is before you, the way is clear

Start to walk, Start To Climb , You will attain

*

The Path Gets Hard, Your Goal Is Certain

You Move further forward , You Have No Fear

Your only task is to climb the Mountain

*

Keeping Focus, You May Feel Uncertain

Pausing to rest, Feeling somewhat unclear

Start to walk, Start To Climb , You will attain

*

Your heart and your mind clear foggy curtain

You know that soon your goal will be so near

Your only task is to climb the Mountain

*

Snowy summit , is illumination

Renewing your hope, your goal will appear

Start to walk, Start To Climb , You will attain

*

You and yours have now brought to fruition

Remember the goal you set is now here

Your only task is to climb the Mountain

Start to walk, Start To Climb , You will attain

=================================================

The song is "Theme From An Imaginary Western" composed by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown and performed by Mountain so that's the connection, and I love the beautiful image from the cover of the album "Mountain Climbing" which it comes from.
