MOONLIGHT ON MY PILLOW

The moon is my friend

MOONLIGHT ON MY PILLOW

I have often wondered late at night,
Why my pillow fills with soft moonlight.
Is it the moon reaching out for a chat,
About this life and where we are at?

Does he get lonely up so high,
With all those stars and miles of sky?
Does he look down and wish to be,
Beside someone as much as me?

Tonight I will leave the curtains wide,
An empty chair here by my side.
We will talk of Jupiter and Mars,
And who keeps watch on lonely stars.

I will tell him things I never say,
When people ask about my day.
The thoughts that reach and find no ear,
The names I still wish I could hear.

He lays his light across my bed,
Across the place you would rest your head.
I touch the sheet, so cool and bare,
And wish a hand were waiting there.

A hand that reaches out for mine,
With nowhere else to be this time.
Someone to say, I live here too,
And I will share this night with you.

Your thoughts, your feelings and your fears,
I have brought a handkerchief for tears.
No need to find the words just yet,
Some things take longer to forget.

Two hands to hold, two lips to kiss,
Two eyes to look into and make a wish.
A heart that beats like a distant drum,
Calling me home from wherever I have come.

I would feel your fingers close round mine,
Your face half hidden in the shine.
You would kiss my lips and hold me tight,
And softly wish me a tender goodnight.

The moon could linger if he chose,
And watch until my eyelids closed.
I would leave him room upon the sill,
For even then, I would hear him still.
