Moon Gazer
A letter to the midnight moon

To:
The Midnight Moon
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
As I sit in
Contemplation
Framed in Shadow
Under your lampshade sky
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
My croaking throat opens
The pain of forgetting
Boiling up from the pit of grief
Emerging as a silvery lullaby
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
A plague of rabid locust
Flock, dry-eyed
A swarming spectre
You sent to block
Out the toiling sun
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
Your summons rings like a gong
The storm of clashing songs
Every silent note
Flows effortlessly off my
Severed tongue
Scrawled upon my depths
The words every moonchild knows by heart
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
The tune I’ve always carried
Yet, incessantly consumes me
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
Your shimmering anthem springs from my
Lungs, fully autonomous
A mirror of my heart in
Ghostly green-fired motion
Threatening to abscond with the
Paper moon I’ve neatly hung
On a line of waxed linen string
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
A reminder of your expectant gaze
Hiding in the sky, camouflaged with the day
⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚
With all my love and desperation
Your Moonchild and Midnight Maiden
