I was born in a city

Guarded by a dragon.

By the belly of the beast,

In the back of a wagon

My mother cradled me

Close to her heart.

She wanted for us

To never part.

But the belly of the beast

Is a rotten place

For raising a child

Dipped in grace.

It poisons your mind

And taints your soul

And glues you down

To the pit in the hole.

.

The chaos followed me

Down the hole.

Bloody hearts sit

In a wooden bowl.

Swirling shapes

begin to make

A warning notice

For my parents’ sake.

A messenger of catastrophe

Caught in the midst

Of a familial war

Of both word and fist.

.

My father lit up

Bright and blue.

His eyes caught fire.

My mother did too.

She blazed and burnt

And eventually fell.

Hit her head so hard

That she could not hear him yell.
