When Time Stands Still. A villanelle

Moments bequeathed as time stands still,

each day a murmuring heartbeat,

where lifeblood drips from tattered quill.

*

I see your tale in dreams unfilled,

a tragic story incomplete.

Moments bequeathed as time stands still.

*

The vision fades, an aching chill,

forewarning of a cold deceit,

where lifeblood drips from tattered quill.

*

As hearts sing songs of whippoorwill,

the eulogy hums a mournful beat.

Moments bequeathed as time stands still.

*

A bitter taste of tears distilled,

with muddled words on empty sheets,

where lifeblood drips from tattered quill.

*

Aside a field of daffodils,

an epitaph stands obsolete.

Moments bequeathed as time stands still,

where lifeblood drips from tattered quill.
