Ozark's Humidity

Lying about

It’s humid out

The sun was just shining

The birds were dining

The locusts begin screaming now

While the sky is lying low

Honeysuckle’s sweet scent

Comes through the air conditioner vent

Heat heavy in the air

If I could, I’d be bare

Little caring what shape I wear

Say your worst, if you dare

I’ve heard harsher from better than you

To stay cool, I’ll do what I have to do

Smelling the roses, admiring the lilies

Smiling at my neighbor doing wheelies

Float trips on the Eleven Point River

Cold springs that will make you shiver

The sun beating down on your skin

Visiting in the evenings with the kin

Kids playing around the mimosa tree

Bowling a few quick games of bocce

The adults laugh and pop a brew

Telling stories, stretching what’s true

Cookouts with brisket

Potato salad? I’ll risk it

Grab yourself a plate

You haven’t arrived late

Don’t worry, there’s plenty

There’s enough to feed twenty

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
