Mint Oreos

Excerpt from "Sleeping Wolves Lie"

It gets worse before it gets better

And things slowly start to change

As we rearrange our lives

Preparing for the worst, and praying for the better.

It gets good before it gets better

Plans look more like life, and life looks more like a page torn from a storybook.

Then it gets perfect,

And you wish that you could stall time.

You didn’t know that it was going to get worse,

Or if it would ever get better.

You didn’t know that for better or worse,

Really only meant for the better, for the best.

You didn’t know that the better came after the good,

That came before the bad and the worse and the brokenness, and the loneliness, the nothingness.

You didn’t know that worst was following at all.

Mint Oreos.
