Mine Forevermore

To visit at will

I saviour my memories on the days that are tough,

Remembering the correspondence of the heart,

A silken touch,

A loving word,

A stroking of trauma to help disappear.

**

I often think about the belly laughs,

The overflowing chest that feels it’ll burst,

The appreciation when I woke,

A loving text message.

**

None of these memories can be taken away,

They were gifted in moments of joy,

Anticipation of the day that was,

The nights remembered,

The one supremely magical day we experienced,

That I’ll treasure forever.

**

I can even appreciate the loss,

Understanding now the path led,

Feeling empathy for the pain.

**

My heart holds the love tenderly held,

Mine for eternity.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
