This holiday season I feel like the best way to stay mindful of our budgets and our environmental impact is to just think simple and keep the original spirit of the holiday in mind during every moment of our lives. Love and charity are sustainable gifts and I would like to see them passed around like wildfire, so I wrote a little Holiday poem about it:
Mindful Gifting 2020 Edition
while gift giving this holiday keep in mind, to so many 2020 has been unkind.
If you want a gift that will sustain, simply keep your mind focused to the mundane.
This year the daily grind, is something most would only hope to find
For now sports, concerts, and events many sad cries lament
Tears and sadness to what we have lost, jobs and loved ones, Covid’s cost.
This year I might suggest; that we do our socially distanced best!
Surprise a neighbor by shoveling their drive, to repeat this act of kindness most will strive.
Give this idea a shove, Start a tradition rooted in love
Spread kindness and joy, instead of purchasing a toy.
Decorate a local park, and fill your town with Holiday spark!
Despite all the struggle here, let’s strive to spread some holiday cheer.
Kindness spreads like wildfire, it ignites with a souls desire
In this fact I do not jest, please know that our communities could use some rest.
Send a pizza to your local Emergency Room, let your generosity flourish and bloom
Then set your goals for this coming year, state your intention and make it clear
This holiday isn’t about self you see, helping others helps our sanity
Gift giving is not about how much we spend, sometimes it’s just about being a friend
Reach out to those you know, loneliness can be a quiet foe
And those who need it most, rarely ask, fear of judgement forces them to wear a mask
Gift kindness and share, I think there is endless sustainability there
Share with joy, spread your spirit, Give the gift of love to any who dare go near it!
I hope this message will spread, helping others to get out of their head
Gift love, and help, and generosity, then make this your life’s philosophy.
Time is all we get, all we earn. Use it well lest you not look back and yearn.
