Microcosmos

Travelers

There are infinite microcosmos all around.

In that one, a father and his daughter.

She tells him about her day,

how her best friend Laura let her borrow

the cutest pencil,

how Ms. Johnson talked about her life

more than that day's lesson.

He smiles, for these are simple times.

Over there, a couple. They seem distant.

In the valley between them

runs tension and unspoken words

and pain and a river of emotions

they decide to leave untouched.

In that one, a group of college kids.

They are shouting and singing,

the volume all the way up

and the windows down.

Unsuspecting of the other worlds

breaking or forming around them.

In this one, a writer.

A man. An observer of galaxies.

A painter of words. A traveler.

I conspire to share stories with other travelers.

Stories of futile experiences.

Stories of enormous meaning.

Stories of that which shall remain unnamed

by those of us who see it,

those of us lucky to remain beyond experience,

those of us who continue exploring beyond our world.
