He came to me one night in a dream
With magical words I could never imagine
Standing patiently through sunlight and rain
Feeding them to me like some lyrical message
He gently ushers each season along
One by one, eulogizing their successes
Lovingly sings each one their own song
His debutants passing by in lace dresses
He met summer on a lush, grassy hill
As September brought her dance to an end
Smiled as raspberry stained colors danced on the sill
Knowing he’d taste summers sweet kiss again
*
As the sun sank, autumn’s stars filled the sky
A harvest moon took her place center stage
The locusts sang lullabies under pumpkins on vines
Another season turned like that of a page
Fall flew by, like the birds heading south
Earth preparing for phases to come
One by one leaves returned to the ground
Dissolving into the soil they came from
**
Winter came with the first fall of snow
Carefully crafting each flake into art
Falling down onto the dreamers below
Stirring warmth in the coolest of hearts
Blanketing fields and the scars of a life
Gathering family and friends once apart
Welcoming the newness of time
Reigniting new life with her spark
**
Like a bride to a tune, enters spring
Signs of life are exposed from the earth
Trees and the flowers telling tales while blooming
Gaining strength as they push through the dirt
Like a child, he holds each in his arms
Each created for a purpose and time
Revealing their own special charms
Returning each year, a slightly different design
