i stepped into...

vaguely familiar

like i'd been here before

there was mist on the window

and wet leaves on the floor

the air smelled like apples

and sweet cinnamon spice

the treeline was dappled

a pumpkin pie had been sliced

the room filled with laughter

i saw my mom and my dad

in the field was a tractor

i used to drive as a lad

the colors seemed a bit hazy

like in an old photograph

i know that this might sound crazy

but i saw a younger version of myself

with all my siblings beside

the calendar on the wall

marked the month of October

this was no dream at all

it was a memory i'd remembered

a time and place where time stood perfectly still

and the whole world felt right

i sat in that old window sill

my heart full of delight

and i started to cry

i think of all the places

that i've been to before

and nothing beats the embraces

waiting for me, through that front door

and if October is that place

i can steal away to

i'd give whatever it takes

for that memory to come true
