We have been at a Gopher State gathering for thirteen years now
On Memorial Day every year, except this one. I'm not sure how
this one was different, but it was. First Hubby's family cemetery
on Sunday. There was taps, songs, names called out, much commentary
~
Monday, was a visit to my family's cemetery, for cleaning ten graves
Raking, digging holes to plant marigolds. Flags flying in waves.
Next year it will be the hooks for hanging baskets we say
It just looks like it saves so much time and energy in a day
~
We then had lunch and stopped at a cousin's house and a greenhouse.
We picked up plants to take home to plant. A flower garden for the spouse.
A veggie garden for me. The cousin gave my granddaughter art
My daughter bought a few things, including a great piece for a start
of art in their newly built cabin. Family discounts are great
My cousin is a great artist and he is first rate!
~
I told stories at all the graves we took care of, about the good times
I remember, and the good deeds of all involved. All the lives
lost and at what cost. Most men served this country during war time
My stories weren't about those times. Grandson and his girl were prime
helpers! As was the granddaughter and my daughter is divine!
~
The day isn't over quite yet. It's writing and a meeting
Planting, and hauling tools back to the shed. Hubby is eating
I snacked too much on the trip, so no eating for me.
I loved spending time with my kids and remembering family!
