me or you

should i depart early, my child,

you will not have to look far to find me.

i know it may seem daunting, but

my absence is hardly an excuse to not go on with your day. still,

to ask what you need, if i'm not around,

simply:

(1) step outside. if you must stay inside, you can open a window, but really, dear, go sit under a tree, preferably.

(2) close your eyes – no peeking – and breathe in deeply.

(3) feel for the breeze. whisper your question, an exhalation of fear with patience as you wait for the wind to bring it to me.

(4) pause. let it carry, let it return, and listen.

from you, your breath. to you, your answer.

you have all you are ever going to need.

I am a non-binary, trans-masc writer. I work to dismantle internalized structures of oppression, such as the gender binary, class, and race. My writing is personal but anecdotally points to a larger political picture of systemic injustice.
