Matters of the Heart

Two extremes

As the whispers of two hearts beating in tune

Pulse solely for the other,

The need for words disappear

Leaving only the melody of the language of love.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

When two hearts speak in rhythm,

A perfect beat of their own volition,

There’s no need for humanly expression

When speaking to the heart of love.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

The universal language of love,

Two hearts in perfect synchronisation.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

The staccato of the song,

Simplistic in nature,

Swollen with the unspoken emotion

For its twin echoing inside of its beat.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Whether standing side by side

Or abound by the miles,

Two loving hearts speak volumes

Over the distance of time.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

No need for the spoken word,

When two hearts rhyme in the language of adoration.

πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

Two hearts exploding in pain,

Shouldering the agony of rage,

The beat off kilter, stagnating in raw emotion

Suddenly silent in its ability to listen.

πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

The anger is palpable within the atmosphere,

Strangling the beat of love and reason,

Hiccuping in defiance,

Cocooned alone in a raging bubble of destruction.

πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Two hearts silent,

As two voices scream through their pain.

πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

The ability to listen has been squandered

As two hearts stand shoulder to shoulder,

Screaming their point of view,

Shouting to be heard,

Shouting to be understood.

πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Two hearts broken, raw and bloody,

As the cracks of inconsolable pain widens in a shower of torment,

Distance grappling within the same room

As two hearts fall into the abyss of battered walls installed for protection.

πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

When two hearts are in sync,

The miles entwine into a connection so powerful

That they speak as one, together,

Forever side by side,

Distance combustible and indestructible.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

When two hearts battle in anger,

The miles expand into irreconcilable remoteness

Even when standing face to face,

Silent and uncommunicative

Or shouting and deaf to the noise.

πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

The heightened emotions of the language of love,

Perfection moulded within two heartbeats,

Until the destructive nuances of ego, arrogance and anger

Warps the silent language written within two hearts.

πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Stand down, wipe the agony overriding the song,

Listen to another’s heart in empathy,

Calmly ask that they hear your tune,

And whisper feelings of content and sacrifice

Until two hearts return to the preciousness of the chorus of love.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry β€” it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves β€” I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Colleen, This poem of love makes me reach for Colin's hand. Such love, sweetness, joy and heartache, again, thank you, Diane.

  • Whoaaaa, that sure was an emotional roller coaster tide! I love how you even changed the heart emojis to the heartbroken ones to suit the mood!

Wild how all those varying emotions all come from the same place. The heart is a fickle little beast, isn't it. Excellent poem.
