Martyr

A poem.

Are we the martyrs of our own destruction?

Are there outside forces at play?

Every night, I dream of a solution

Only to wake, and see it fleeting, drifting further away

Powerless and lost, I seek my fate

Through a labyrinth of lies and convincing deceit

Chaotic order and guarded hate

My destiny seems barren, far from victory, close to defeat

Embrace your mind, do not try to escape it

For if you run from yourself, who remains?

Our fate, rests in the actions we commit

To falter and break free, from these invisible chains

Time and beyond, what does it hold?

Mysteries of existence, life and death

A faithful will, may live through us all, in our hearts and minds till we grow to be old

Enlightening knowledge, bound nor by book or in form or text, but within our soul, under bided breath

We see life, but do we understand it?

Nature is a beautiful thing, a powerful thing

Will it crush us, or allow us to crush it?

Both outcomes bring suffering

Our intentions remain, and will stay the same

Stagnant in evolution unless threatened

As problems arise, we will adapt, but never change. Before and after prideful glory, there is always pain

Our mark on this Earth only grows, a new age will beckon

Bound by creed, dogma and false opinions

The answers you seek, they all lay within

The temple of our consciousness, between the ruses of society’s convictions

That blind you from the truth, like a wolf in sheep’s skin

But can we blame them for reaping what we have?

For they are not monsters, but only men
