Married But Not Taken

Married but not taken,
well not completely so,
there’s something in those eyes of yours
that tells me what I know.

We’ve travelled through the years, love,
as friends who never strayed,
but underneath the friendship
some feelings never fade.

I’m not asking for forever,
I’m not asking for a ring,
I just wonder what would happen
if we gave in to this thing.

Would you hold me like you meant it,
would the years just disappear,
would we laugh at all the wasted time
that never brought us here.

I’d leave the light down softly,
let the outside world go blind,
you can forget your sensible head,
I’ll conveniently lose mine.

No promises by morning,
no breakfast on a tray,
though judging by my wicked thoughts
you might not get away.

I might accidentally lose your shoes,
your trousers might go too,
and if you ask me where they are
I haven’t got a clue.

But underneath the laughter
there’s a tenderness that’s true,
because before the naughty thoughts
there was always me and you.

An old friend is a dangerous thing
when sparks still hide inside,
especially when the years have passed
but something never died.

Married but not taken,
now there’s a dangerous line,
I’ll behave myself tomorrow—
but tonight, old friend, you’re mine. šŸ˜ā¤ļø
