The war was over, the fighting was done.
Freedom for all, as the soldiers had won.
Some had died, some injured while fighting for thee.
Tired, they marched in victory.
Homeward bound and much-needed rest.
They all worked hard, they did their best.
While families wait.
In honour to celebrate.
To see their loved ones return home to thee.
For several it was sad, and unfortunately.
They never got to say goodby.
Yet pride in their hearts, tears while they cry.
We remember every year in the fall.
A moment of silence, a toast in the resting hall.
War is no place one wishes to be.
But our soldiers fought for you and me.
To live in a country where we can roam and be free.
Most of all to live in harmony.
We thank them, our heroes each and every day.
Wishing we could do more, as we pray.
