I live in a town of drum beats, guitar licks, and bright lights

I meet famous people that no one knows are famous:

the oldest science fiction author, playwrights, and a retired

bass player who got divorced after many years of marriage.

Music is played on the streets

Christmas lights outline the door

violin and flutes christened

the sidewalk in front of the

bank.

People howl at the moon

sing drunkenly from their bar

stools.

Holding a sign asking for money they need

to help send their babies to school,

because they do not speak English.

Poetry is written about the music

pulsating from the planets,

and boys smoke cigarettes in

bathroom stall

while copying phone numbers

they scribbled from the walls

onto notecards
