Lucidity

“If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme”

The people in my town are screaming.

“Watch out! Here comes the dinosaur!”

This is when I know I’m dreaming,

The tyrannosaurus has hunted me before…

And he has come back for more.

The villain of a reoccurring nightmare

Extinct in real life, but not here.

His ground shaking steps, his sinister stare,

Stalking his prey, a child filled with fear…

And I know my death is near.

The attempts I have made at escaping

Have always ended in failure

There is no use in running or hiding,

So I wait for inevitable capture…

And I accept he will be the victor.

He sees me now, and my fate is assigned

My body shaking while he comes forward

As he approaches, a thought comes to mind:

“If only I just had a sword!”

And, suddenly, my faith is restored.

A blade has appeared in my hand!

The wish I made has come true!

This is the first time I understand

The power of what I can do…

And now, my vengeance is due.

I stab the monster, and he dies.

The crowd cheers, “You’ve saved the day!”

I am filled with awe and surprise

That I was able to make him go away…

And since then, my dreams have never been the same.
