lovers who will leave

a note on what i noticed at first

I met you a moment ago

And I have missed you ever since

As though the wind warned me of the Saudades

The looming sadness

If this is so good at first

I can only imagine how it will be when this dance is over

Can already feel it

I sense the Saudades too soon

I have longed for you for a lifetime in this moment

As though the sky is already shedding tears for your departure,

I miss you already

And yet I devour you right now

I am surely in love with the sadness

Lovers who will leave

Lovers who call the storms;

Whose departure signals the rain for too many days

Lovers with loss in deep lakewater eyes

Too soon did your love come before I could savour it

Too sudden, your inevitable departure,

Like the death introduced by the browning ficus edge

The poinsettia is red only at the top

When before she was rouging all over her body

She now only sings, from the top:

“Come what may”

And at once, love at first,

Is the love, at last, that did not last and yet still, is the first
