Love You, Too
A love poem using words 4 letters long or less.
The word just came out.
You stop, eyes wide.
Love, you said. “I love you”.
I stop too, by your side.
You look away from me, and I can tell –
You did not mean to say it out loud.
But it’s too late; the word is out
You can’t take it back now.
I see fear on your face, but in your eyes
A tiny ray of hope, too.
We don’t move an inch,
As you wait to see what I do.
I know what you want to ask,
Do you feel the same?
I’m sure you can see my mind race
As I try to find what to say.
For is it just love, when it feels like
I need you as much as the air?
When you own a part of my very soul?
And it’s far too much to bear?
I don’t know what else to say,
So I turn and look at you.
I find your hand, and look up with a grin,
And say: “Yes - I love you, too”.
