Love Written In Black Ink
People speak of love like flame
Bright and fast and hard to tame
Like thunder in the sky
Or stars appearing overnight
Yet mine arrived another way
No grand event, no special day
No music drifting through the air
Just someone slowly staying there
You entered carrying your own rain
Old disappointments, quiet pain
I smiled and hid my weather too
Pretending skies were always blue
At first we spoke in careful ways
Like strangers counting passing days
Keeping our stories close inside
And giving truth a place to hide
Then little things began to grow
The sort most people never show
Remembered words and simple care
And finding comfort being there
You learned my silence had a voice
I learned that staying is a choice
Not made once under perfect light
Yet made again through every night
Some days were easy, warm and bright
Some days we never got it right
Still something stronger settled in
Not flawless love, something akin
To knowing someone sees your scars
Without demanding brighter stars
To laugh and talk and still remain
Through awkward days and passing rain
One evening sitting side by side
No grand confession left to hide
I realised softly without warning
Love had arrived without performing
Now if someone should ask me when
I would not point to where or then
I’d say it happened quietly
When ordinary became somewhere
I wanted to be
