love

(yourself)

By Sara Published 3 months ago 1 min read

you liked me enough

to call me yours

but not enough

to be mine.

you wanted me enough

to have my heart

but not enough

to give yours away.

you loved me enough

to keep me around

but not enough

to keep me.

you didn’t like me.

you didn’t want me.

you didn’t love me.

you loved your own reflection

and the way i made you feel.

you wanted my fingers to trace the bridge of your nose

and the way i lit up your eyes.

you loved yourself

enough to hate me

and i loved myself

enough to leave you.

Wow, Sara! I don't know which line is my favourite. I'm torn between "you wanted me enough to have my heart but not enough to give yours away" and "I loved myself enough to leave you." This poem is SO powerful!

  • Such a powerful contrast.

Such a delicate distinction but so critical. I like the ways you've drawn it.
