LOVE ISN'T ALWAYS HEARTS AND FLOWERS

Sometimes it’s nettles and stings

LOVE ISN'T ALWAYS HEARTS AND FLOWERS

Love isn't always hearts and flowers

Or kisses in the rain

Sometimes love is holding on

When all you feel is pain

I remember when you loved me

When roses filled the room

Before our little garden died

And silence learned to bloom

We planted all our promises

Beneath a summer sky

But somewhere in our happiness

We learned to say goodbye

The roses lost their petals

The hearts began to break

And every little word you said

Was more than I could take

I watered all our memories

With tears you never knew

And wondered why the flowers died

When I still cared for you

We lived beneath the same old roof

Yet worlds were far apart

You never saw the loneliness

That lived inside my heart

I kept your faded letters

The flowers pressed between

And all the little promises

Of what our love had been

Then somewhere in the tangled vines

A lonely flower grew

Its petals torn by yesterday

Yet somehow it pulled through

Perhaps that's what love really is

Not perfect every day

But finding how to hold a heart

When words have gone astray

So don't bring me a thousand roses

Or hearts of painted red

Just hold me when I'm crying

And hear the words I've said
