Love in Lockdown

A story of romance in the time of COVID-19.

A friend told me a story of a blossoming relationship, forged while under stay-at-home order during the pandemic. While the chaos crashed from shore to shore leaving devastation in its wake, two people found the solace and elation they needed right next door.

A brief time of hardship, unprecedented.

In our lifetime unique, a virus unrelenting.

Our lives transformed. Our freedom limited.

To be a flaneur, no longer permitted.

One walk per day. One hour only.

One mile radius. Two people lonely.

A stolen moment, with a friendly new neighbor.

No swiping required. This love is no labor.

Soon enough they meet. Darkness provides cover.

Once, then twice. Neighbor becomes lover.

Forbidden by law, putting no one at risk.

Until quarantine ends they continue their trysts.

Steps away, but socially isolated.

A heart beats hard. It won’t be abated.

Borne of struggle, this union avails.

A story for the ages, a lockdown love tale.
