love at first sight

Maybe it’s not that moment in the movies or the fairytales

Maybe it’s not

That moment

In the movies

Where she walks in

All eyes on her-

Not just all eyes-

But “the” eyes-

Like an invisible spotlight

Shining down on

Just her-

Beauty

That is breathtaking

Maybe it’s not

That meet cute

Bumping into each other

At the dollar tree

In the insanely

Small town

You both grew up in

But never crossed paths

Till the right place

Right time

Maybe it’s not

That fairytale

The prince

Slaying the dragons

Freeing her

With a sweet kiss

Breaking the curse

Maybe it’s

That moment

She’s sobbing-

Screaming-

In the bathtub

Pajamas on

Messy bun

Mascara running

Truth revealed

That she wasn’t

What you thought she was

Not the kind of pretty

That turns heads

Or gets numbers in Grocery stores

The kind that had to slay her own dragons-

But the kind that gets

Her beauty stolen

Pieces of her

Taken

Wrists held

Instead of hands

Wolf whistles down the street

Ass memorized

Instead of her favorite songs

Maybe it’s that moment

Where she pushes you away

Because she’s scared your like the rest

Knowing her darkness

Is too much

She hisses and scratches

Protect her fragile heart

From being called

Crazy

One more time

Maybe it’s in that moment

Where you see a

Beautiful

Strong

Woman

Vulnerable

Wounded by the world

Scars bared

Heart on the bathroom floor

Exposed-

Seen

For the first time

Maybe it’s in that moment-

Where you climb into the bathtub

With her

Take her in your arms-

And you stay.
