Love at first sight

They’re each convinced

that a sudden passion joined them.

Such actuality is stunning,

but uncertainty is more lovely still.

Since they’d never met earlier than, they’re sure

that there’d been nothing among them.

But what’s the phrase from the streets, staircases, hallways—

possibly they’ve passed by way of each other a million times?

I want to ask them

if they don’t don't forget—

a second head to head

in a few revolving door?

Perhaps a “sorry” muttered in a crowd?

A curt “wrong range” caught inside the receiver?—

however I recognise the answer.

No, they don’t don't forget.

They’d be amazed to hear

that Chance has been toying with them

now for years.

Not pretty prepared yet

to grow to be their Destiny,

it pushed them close, drove them aside,

it barred their path,

stifling a laugh,

after which leaped apart.

There were signs and signals,

even if they couldn’t examine them yet.

Perhaps 3 years ago

or just remaining Tuesday

a positive leaf fluttered

from one shoulder to some other?

Something became dropped after which picked up.

Who is aware of, maybe the ball that vanished

into formative years’s thicket?

There were doorknobs and doorbells

where one contact had covered some other

beforehand.

Suitcases checked and standing side by side.

One night, possibly, the equal dream,

grown hazy via morning.

Every starting

is handiest a sequel, in spite of everything,

and the book of occasions

is usually open midway through.
