Boundaries are the distance that allows me to love you and love myself simultaneously.

Establish boundaries, create distance.

Controlling parents, hurtful partners, overbearing bosses, emotionally unstable relatives and friends...

All troubles stem from interpersonal relationships.

Walking away is the easiest part; the hard part is not being able to turn away gracefully.

Some ask: Should I also establish boundaries with my partner? These are my parents, should I push them away?

Drawing boundaries is not about pushing away the people you love. On the contrary, boundaries are precisely what allow us to get along well.

The first step in setting boundaries is establishing your own "what’s acceptable and what’s not," and clearly defining your bottom line.

The next step is practicing speaking them out loud. State what is acceptable and what is not. Express your bottom line.

It might not work immediately, and it might even cause resentment—after all, people who cross boundaries aren't used to being rejected.

But slowly and consistently expressing yourself will always be better than staying silent.

Thank you for your courage; you deserve to be treated better.

A boundary is simply the distance that allows me to love you—and love myself—at the same time.
