When I was little, I had only the words of the lives before me to know what being a woman was,

I built my foundation on their fights and their bloodshed and became unbreakable,

unmoving,

and unwilling to settle.

Until finding out that I don't have the right to choose,

until finding out my life isn't mine,

until finding out that in order to be seen as worthy I need to abide by the rules set in place by a man.

I can never have a daughter in a world where my grandmother had more rights than her or I have,

our world is lost and I had to use my tears as skincare this morning.
