Loss Takes Its Time

And I’m In A Hurry

i remember you in my reflection

though it seems somehow that too has changed

fear invades my heart like an infection

nothing of me remains quite the same

a shallow smile clings to the edge of my face

lost glances escape hollowing eyes

hope leaves me helplessly trying to replace

the broken echoes that hide in goodbye

pain comes in waves of emotion

taking the breath I need, away from me

tossed like a ship lost on the ocean

dragging the life that i loved out to sea

orphaned and longing for salvation

i’ve nowhere to turn now that you’ve gone

buried in overwhelming expectation

searching for a reason to hang on

memories that linger, bring comfort

reminiscing keeps truth frozen at bay

allowing my passage like a passport

holding us safely in that place

where the flowers we picked mark celebration

and i keep them in my heart, on replay

so much more than a fragrant decoration

as I lay them lovingly on your grave

petals fly reminding me that you love me

and you’ll never be too far away

one by one each one gently conveying

that we will be back together someday
