Look at it this Way
Poem I once wrote for an Open Mic Night
To Whom it May Concern,
Look at it this way
We learned how to turn lead into gold
The idea is too ancient to be old
Just become a plumber
You need your gold to live
You get out of bed to earn
The money you need to buy the bed
But water is the truest life
And we need the pipes to bring the water
So pipes turn lead to gold.
Look at it this way
Food doesn’t move
Your waistline has nothing to prove
And healthy food isn’t slow
If it doesn’t move, it can’t be fast
That’s more important than you know
You need to bring the movement
When you break bread with someone,
It’s the fire of the oven you’re sharing
It’s not the food that moves
Look at it this way
Love is a greater darkness than evil or cruelty or plight
So turn out the light
When you make love
Here is what darkness means:
It can take any shape, and shifts when you shine light on it
It is the source of dreams, it is rest, it is sleep
You can always find it, no matter how deep your hole
It has no limits, you can find it anywhere
It is love, and it is darkness
Look at it this way
Do not be afraid of fear
That way you will hear
The voice of hope
What do you do once you’re afraid
If the greatest fear is fear itself?
No matter the terror that started it,
If you fear your fear you’ll spiral
So fight fear with fear
Because fear is terrified of peace
Look at it this way
Your body is not your enemy
Your blood is not astronomy
So stop staring down the stars
Remember the word “ambulance”
And you’ll understand the lie of the mirror
Reflections are reversed, the sides are wrong
Waists do have bottom lines
But your body won’t put you out of business
It’s your heart you need to watch
So give it a try, look at it this way
Stop trying to get things right
Sometimes even the frost can bite
Warmest Regards,

I love how sweet this Poem is. Your subtitle really set the stage - I could imagine you up there at a stand up comedy show, but could see you taking a serious turn and making the crowd shed a tear or two.
